Putty is a material intended for leveling walls and ceilings before finishing work. It allows you to eliminate local irregularities, cracks, seams, joints and other defects. This application is determined by the finer fractionation of the material than that of plaster.

Types of putties by composition

• Gypsum. The main component is gypsum. The main advantage is the almost complete absence of shrinkage. Among the disadvantages is low moisture resistance, which makes it advisable to use it exclusively indoors.
• Cement. The main components are cement and sand. Such putties are durable and strong, however, some subtypes (depending on the composition) are prone to shrinkage, which is why a technological break in work is required after applying the layer. An important advantage is an attractive price.
• Polymer. It can be made on the basis of various components - from acrylic to PVA. The use of putties of this type ensures maximum evenness of the treated surface. However, there is also a significant drawback - the extremely high cost.

Depending on their composition, putties can be used either for external or internal work.

Note: most often façade putty for exterior workhas a cement or polymer base.

Types of putties by purpose

• Starting ones. Also sometimes called first coat putties. They are designed for rough leveling of surfaces.
• Finish. Used directly to create a layer on which the final finish will be applied. Also suitable for removing minor surface defects.
• Universal. They combine the features of using the previously mentioned types.
